Headley Grange “Drumstick” LE2013
The steady sound of John Bonham’s drums on “When The Levee Breaks” resonated in our offices–over, and over, and over–for many days back in 2011. That unforgettable heavy, ominous, plodding intro to a classic rock track gave birth to what would ultimately become, Headley Grange, our second brand release.
It is in the spirit of one of rock’s most iconic drummers of all times, that Crowned Heads presents “Headley Grange Drumstick Limited Edition 2013.” Measuring 7 1/2” x 38, and finished with a traditional flag cap, Headley Grange “Drumstick” is a lancero vitola, based upon the Headley Grange blend.
Lancero, meaning “lancer” in Spanish, is a vitola that was first rolled at El Laguito in the 1960’s with the creation of the Cohiba brand. Known as an El Laguito No. 1 in Cuban cigar factories, the lancero is one of the most elegant cigar vitolas, as well as one of the most difficult to blend and roll. As is the case with all small-ring gauge cigars, the flavor of the wrapper leaf is more dominant in the lancero, as there is less filler to counterbalance the flavor profile of the wrapper.
As such, we felt that the “Drumstick” was the perfect vehicle in which to let the unique taste of the Ecuador Sumatra wrapper featured on Headley Grange shine through. We altered the original Headley Grange filler slightly, in order to create a more balanced, yet rich and complex, smoking experience. In order to achieve this, a finite amount of specific tobaccos was utilized to create “Drumstick.”
As with our 2012 Limited Edition–Four Kicks Mule Kick LE 2012–Headley Grange Drumstick LE 2013 will be a limited one-time release. A total of 1,500 ten-count boxes (15,000 cigars) were produced. Headley Grange Drumstick LE 2013 is manufactured at Tabacalera La Alianza, S.A., in Santiago, Dominican Republic, under the supervision of one of the cigar industry’s true icons, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Jr.
As an aficionado of lanceros, I can’t wait to try one of these gems.
I need more! I’m smoking my last one for Lancero February!!
